Chin Augmentation
Chin Augmentation is a common procedure that makes use of surgical implants which can be performed at the time of rhinoplasty. Chin augmentation generally brings balance to the facial structure by the way of correcting a weak chin due to congenital deficiency, age-related bone absorption or facial trauma. This procedure can be as simple as injecting a temporary soft tissue augmentation filler to implanting a silicone or Porex chin implant, to having a genioplasty. The surgery of chin augmentation is usually performed by either an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, otolaryngologist, or plastic surgeon. It is popular and may be achieved by manipulation of the jaw bone and augmentation utilizing this technique. It provides a more dramatic correction than is achieved with the use of prosthetic implants.

Recovery Time
The recovery is normally within a week. The person can resume to normal exercise within a week.
Risks
The risks include infection, bony changes and displacement of the implant, scarring, Capsular contraction in which the scar tissues become tightened and hard.
Technology
Patient will have x-rays taken of the face and chin. The doctor will use these x-rays to determine what part of the chin to operate on. After giving general anesthesia a cut is made, either inside the mouth or outside under the chin. A pocket is created in front of the chin bone and under the muscles, and then implant is placed inside.

The surgeon may use real bone or fat tissue, or an implant made out of silicone, Teflon, Dacron, or newer biological inserts. The implant is then attached to the bone with sutures or screws. Sutures are used to close the surgical cut. When the cut is inside the mouth, the scar is barely visible. This is done to give chin a round look.
