Surgically, there are two methods to remove mole. One method is with stitches and another without stitches. In surgical face mole removal with stitches, the area is cleansed and then numbed by means of an anesthetic. A scalpel is used to cut the growth and a portion of the skin. Depending on depth of the cut, sutures may need to be placed inside as well as on the surface. If stitches were placed inside, then they will get dissolved by time. Exterior stitches will need to be physically removed later by the doctor. In surgical face mole removal without stitches, a scalpel is used to shave the area to level with the surrounding skin. An electrical instrument is used on the area to stop any bleeding. An antibiotic is placed on top of the affected area to prevent infection. The shaving process removes the part that is protruding leaving some nevus cells beneath the surface which can grow back. Such procedures typically take less than an hour to perform. This is kind of temporary process in which mole can regrow.
Another method of face mole removal is to use a laser. This procedure is not able to be used for deep moles as the laser does not penetrate very far below the surface.
